Spravato (esketamine)
Spravato (esketamine)
Spravato® (esketamine) is the only FDA-approved nasal spray for adults with treatment-resistant depression, meaning depression that has not improved enough after trying two or more antidepressant medications.
Spravato is administered in our REMS-certified treatment center under medical supervision and is covered by many insurance plans.
When other medications have not worked, Spravato may help you find hope again.
What is Spravato® (Esketamine)
Spravato® (Esketamine) is the first FDA-approved prescription nasal spray for adults with treatment-resistant depression (TRD)—depression that continues despite trying two or more antidepressant medications.
Unlike traditional antidepressants, which primarily affect neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine, Spravato works differently. It is believed to target the glutamate system, a key neurotransmitter involved in mood regulation, learning, memory, and cognitive function. By acting on this pathway, Spravato may help restore neural connections affected by depression.
One of the most significant advantages of Spravato is its rapid onset of action. Clinical studies have demonstrated that some patients experience improvement in depressive symptoms within 24 hours, compared with the several weeks or months often required for traditional antidepressants to take full effect.
Spravato is prescribed alongside an oral antidepressant, creating a complementary treatment approach that may enhance symptom relief and support healthier, more positive thought patterns. Clinical trials have shown that patients receiving Spravato in combination with an oral antidepressant experienced greater and more sustained improvements in depressive symptoms compared to those treated with an oral antidepressant alone.
